Victoriatus was one of several dragons from the Edinburgh covert who responded to a distress signal from the city of Aberdeen in mid-1805. An air battle over the North Sea followed, and Victoriatus helped to drive off the French attack, but was wounded. Maximus and Temeraire were called from the Loch Laggan covert to carry him there so he could receive medical attention. During the exchange, Victoriatus unknowingly injured Temeraire, an action that led to the events that reconciled John Granby and William Laurence.
Victoriatus remained at Loch Laggan while his wounds healed, and at some point during this time, he, along with Vindicatus, explained the concept of whores to Temeraire, who had been wondering why members of his crew with no relations in the area were leaving for the town.
Victoriatus left the Loch Laggan covert shortly before Lily's Formation headed for the Dover covert to aid the dragons there. He had not completely healed at this point, and was escorted by two Yellow Reapers, but in time he was well again, and he participated in the Battle of Dover.
Victoriatus ultimately contracted the Dragon Plague in 1806, and died as a result. Keynes, dragon-surgeon to Temeraire, conducted an autopsy on Victoriatus' body, in the hopes that they might discover more about the disease, and better cure it.
